Only One Umbrella Between Us

Julian Hart has spent two years carefully maintaining a polite distance from his roommate Kian Reyes, whose relentless sunshine and habit of leaving mugs everywhere should have driven him mad — instead, it has driven him quietly, hopelessly in love. An architect by trade, Julian builds walls for a living, and the ones around his heart are his finest work. Kian, a freelance illustrator who fills their shared apartment with colour and chaos, seems oblivious to the tension simmering beneath their easy domestic rhythm. When a sudden summer storm strands them three miles from their apartment with only one half-broken umbrella, Julian's rigid control is no match for the rain. Huddled under the too-small canopy, shoulders pressed tight against the downpour, something shifts. Kian's usual chatter falters for the first time. The walk home becomes a slow, soaked undoing — each accidental brush of hands, each shared breath beneath the drumming rain, stripping away every excuse they have ever built. Julian's carefully constructed walls collapse not from the storm, but from the way Kian looks up at him, rain trailing down his cheerful face, and whispers the words that change everything. A story about the quietest confessions and the loudest rain, where one broken umbrella becomes the catalyst for two hearts finally finding shelter in each other.
