Burden of Proof

At Ashwick Law School, every seminar is a blood sport and the law review rivalry between Elias Vance and Leo Calloway is legendary. Elias survives by outmaneuvering his perpetually unflappable nemesis until a prestigious clinical fellowship erupts into scandal. Leo is framed for leaking sealed evidence from a controversial pharmaceutical appeal case, threatened with expulsion and career obliteration. Elias is the only alibi: he saw Leo alone in the rare books archive at the exact moment the leak was orchestrated, a detail neither dared voice because it would expose their secret, vitriolic late-night debates that felt far too intimate. Shackled together by a truth no one else believes, they must trace a network of forged timestamps and manipulated security logs while descending into the law school's hidden power struggles. As they dismantle each layer of the frame-up, the procedural alliance strains against years of carefully curated hostility, forcing them to confront the thin line between obsessive study and an obsession with each other. The slow-burn unravelling of the campus conspiracy becomes a crucible that reveals the most dangerous verdict is not about guilt or innocence but whether they dare admit the rivalry was always a prelude to surrender.
