Burden of Proof

At Gresham Law, where competition is as ruthless as a courtroom cross-examination, Eli Brennan and Noah Vance have spent three years locked in a silent war for valedictorian. Then a devastating campus scandal erupts: leaked evidence from a confidential mooting exercise implicates Noah in academic fraud, threatening his future. The only person who can verify his alibi is Eli, who glimpsed Noah in the law library at the exact moment of the breach. Forced to collaborate or watch an injustice unfold, they enter a labyrinth of manipulated security footage, encrypted files, and a shadowy faculty society known as The Inns. Every conversation becomes a deposition; every glance, evidence of something neither is prepared to name. As the investigation deepens, the friction between them evolves from reluctant trust into a dangerous attraction. When Eli discovers that The Inns orchestrated his father's professional destruction years ago, the case becomes personal. Unraveling the conspiracy requires them to risk everything, including the careful walls they have built around their hearts. Justice arrives, but the aftermath brings a new crisis: an accreditation investigation threatens to devalue everything they fought to protect. In the wreckage of ambition, they must decide whether what they have found in each other is strong enough to survive outside the crucible that forged it, and if the future they are only beginning to imagine is worth more than the past that defined them.
